The Golf 8 GTI Clubsport
Fresh from the news that BMW and its 128ti are targeting the GTI, Volkswagen has responded with the introduction of more potent GTI.
The Golf 8 GTI Clubsport packs a 221kW / 400Nm 2.0 turbo and is front-wheel drive. Helping manage the traction is an updated version of VW’s Vehicle Dynamics Manager. The system controls the Clubsport’s XDS electronic diff lock system and components of the optional dynamic chassis control. And, if you happen to be fortunate to have the Nurburgring close by, VW have included a dynamics programme specifically for the track.
Styling additions include an updated front end with a wide open grille, and a two-piece roof spoiler at the rear. Oval tailpipes, special side sills, a unique rear diffuser and 18” wheels are other highlights of the Clubsport look.
Inside, premium sport seats offer increased support, and a leather sports steering wheel is backed by shift paddles.
It’ll be some time before details of the GTI Clubsport’s availability in SA are released, but the announcement will undoubtedly be preceded by the company saying they’re unsure that the model will be coming to SA… In which case, we know it will be.
