Racing division adds a little character to the crossover
Don’t get too excited by the announcement of the Toyota CH-R GR Sport- it looks like a very cool package, but it’s not yet confirmed for SA. Over in Europe, though, customers will be able to get their hands on the beefed up crossover.
The styling treatment includes blacked out elements up front for the Toyota badge, headlight housings, centre bumper and fog light surrounds. There’s also a new front spoiler and a dark chrome grille.
Model-specific 19 inch wheels and black door mouldings are the highlights of the profile view, with the rear featuring another black Toyota badge, black reflector surrounds, a unique under-bumper trim and the GR Sport logo. The bi-tone colour options include a new Dynamic Grey / black roof combo, exclusive to the CH-R GR Sport.
The interior changes include a new Cool Silver finish with a choice of alcantara or fabric upholstery, both with GR-style red and grey stitching. The leather-rim steering is a bespoke element, and features red stitching which matches the finish for the gear shift lever. Standard spec includes front seat heating and JBL sound.
While there’s no power upgrade for the newcomer, it does feature model-specific tyres and suspension. Together with the re-tuned steering, Toyota claims GR Sport’s dynamics have been noticeably improved without affecting the ride comfort.
