Upgraded interior and styling tweaks add some flavour
Not content with having its Polo Vivo as the number one selling car in South Africa, Volkswagen has upped its appeal by creating a special edition: the Mswenko.
First, the name. “Mswenko” is an isiZulu slang word for “swag”. Fun fact: when Lamborghini named its legendary 70’s supercar, it also used a slang term - that car is the Countach, and its name comes from an Italian word which at the time meant "cool".
The Polo Vivo Mswenko is based on the 1.4 Comfortline manual model, and has been given styling tweaks inside and out. For the exterior, 16-inch anthracite wheels, a black roof, privacy glass, chrome exhaust tips, and model-specific decals. The exterior mirror covers are also available in two colours.
The interior packs an anthracite headliner, silver dashboard inserts, leather for the multi-function steering wheel, gearshift lever and gear knob, and seats finished in a material & colour combo called Ocean Blue. Polo Vivo Mswenko also features a six-speaker sound system and smartphone integration via VW’s App Connect.
The drivetrain remains unchanged: a 1.4 4-cylinder petrol putting out 63kW / 132Nm, with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The Mswenko will be available from October 2020, priced at R246 900.
