New engine and a whole lot of customisation
These days, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class is a status symbol for some, and a thing of envy for others. It’s almost hard to believe that it started life as a humble off-road utility vehicle over 40 years ago.
To celebrate its ongoing success, Mercedes-Benz has created the STRONGER THAN TIME edition, which includes cosmetic and engine updates. Powered by an inline 6-cylinder diesel motor the G 400d packs 243 kW and 700 Nm. It’s wrapped up in the AMG Line styling package, which includes black 20-inch AMG wheels housed in flared wheel arches, AMG design elements in the bumpers and an exterior protective strip. It’s also fitted as standard with the Night Package: darkened lights, side mirror housing, and rear windows are matched to an obsidian black spare wheel ring and design elements in the bumpers. Another element is only visible at night - the surround lamp projects the G logo and the phrase ‘STRONGER THAN TIME’ onto the road.
For the interior, black nappa leather with golden topstitching are is combined with to open-pore black ash trim elements.
Further customisation is available though the Mercedes-Benz G manufaktur offer. Customers can choose from a wide range of colours for the nappa leather on the steering wheel, instrument panel and seats, and for the topstitching and seat belts. The spare wheel ring is now also available in the body colour. All in all, Mercedes-Benz claims there are over a million different possible combinations.
The G 400d is available now at a starting price of R 2 874 000.
