Tweaked power and meaner styling

Audi has added an S version to its A7 Sportback lineup.

The S7 Sportback is fitted with the same 3.0 V6 mild-hybrid petrol motor found in the A7, but power has been tweaked to 331kW and 600Nm. With drive sent to all four wheels via a tiptronic gearbox, 0-100km/h happens in 4,6 seconds, and top speed is pegged at 250km/h.

The S7’s standard sport suspension drops the car by 10mm compared to the regular A7, with air suspension available as an option. The quattro all-wheel drive system is able to send as much as 70% of the available torque to the front axle only, or as much as 85% to the rear. Grip is also assisted by wheel-selective torque control, which is managed via autonomous braking. Quattro can be boosted by the optional rear sport differential, and the car’s agility can be enhanced by the addition of the rear-wheel steering option.

Already a fantastic looking thing, the S styling treatment adds dark chrome and aluminium elements for the grille, front blade, side vents, exterior mirrors and rear diffuser, which is flanked by twin exhaust tail pipes. The S7 rides on 21-inch wheels as standard.

The pared-down interior has been enhanced with addition of contrasting stitching and what Audi describes as “sporty inlays”. A flat bottom steering wheel is matched to stainless steel pedal finishers, and the standard sports seats are finished in Valcona leather, with an optional leather and Alcantara or leather and Valcona combo. Audi’s all-digital Virtual Cockpit lives on a 12.3-inch display, and includes a sporty display layout with a centrally-mounted rev counter.

4-zone climate control, Bang & Olufsen sound, customisable interior lighting and a panoramic glass roof are further standard highlights.

The S7 Sportback is available now for R1 500 500.
