Changes everywhere, except under the bonnet
There have been some pretty big changes to one of Audi’s biggest model, the Q7.
One of the key stats is the SUV’s extended length (+11mm), which Audi claims helps it deliver best-in-class head- and legroom for front and rear passengers. Optionally available with a third row of electrically operated seats, the total load volume is a cavernous 2050 litres.
There’s a new layout for the car’s operating system, made up of two touchscreens: the first sits lower down the centre stack in front of the gear shift; it’s topped by the second screen, which can rotate 180º into the dashboard when not in use, leaving a cleaner looking setup. Standard equipment includes four-zone climate control, powered tailgate with foot sensor and MMI Navigation Plus infotainment. The system provides an embedded SIM which allows for live data services like weather and traffic, and navigation using Google Earth. It also includes Audi connect, which provides the ability for emergency calling directly from the vehicle (no phone required), as well as app-enabled functions like remote locking and unlocking, speed and theft alerts, and more.
The styling changes to the Q7 include a refined front end, now slightly less chunky and more in line with other Audi SUVs: the Singleframe grille now features vertical instead of horizontal bars, the headlights have been updated with a new daytime running light graphic, and the side air inlets have been restyled to include satin chrome elements. At the rear, a chrome strip links not only the restyled tail lights, but also stylistically pairs the Q7 with the A8 as Audi flagship models.
There have been minor tweaks to the ride setup, with the rear-wheel steering having been optimised. The drivetrain remains the same: the Q7 is only available in South Africa with a 185kW / 600Nm 3.0 V6 turbo diesel, linked to an 8-speed tiptronic gearbox and quattro all-wheel drive.
