New Sportback model to join the local lineup
After introducing a Sportback version of its Q3 crossover, Audi has announced that the models bigger sibling will get the same treatment.
Just 7mm longer than the regular Q5, the Sportback treatment adds a dramatic element to the otherwise practical SUV. In profile, the Sportback’s third window tapers sharply to the rear, with a sloping back window for a more dynamic look. For S line specification and above, the rear bumper treatment is more distinctive, with enhancements to the grille and side air intakes as well.
The interior remains the same, and features the latest generation of Audi’s MMI infotainment system, now operated completely by a 10.1-inch touchscreen, instead of previous generations' rotary controller.
The Q5 Sportback is being offered internationally with a choice of a two diesel and one petrol engine. The 4-cylinder 40 TDI and 40 TFSI units both have an output of 132kW, and are matched to a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox and quattro all-wheel drive. The other diesel motor on offer is the 255kW 3.0 V6 in the SQ5, which comes with an 8-speed tiptronic automatic and quattro.
Audi South Africa has confirmed that the Q5 Sportback will be arriving in SA towards the end of 2021, with models and pricing to be confirmed closer to the time.
